Our roots

Advant Games Oy Ltd was established in 2006 as a seamless continuation of the 10 year cooperation (1998-2008) between the Finnish national lottery operator Veikkaus and Tampere University of Technology. During the extensive cooperation several key inventions, patents and technological advances were conceived.

The company was founded by Prof. Timo D. Hämäläinen and Prof. Marko Hännikäinen, experts in high-technology solutions for lottery game development and implementation. The founding partners started research collaboration with Veikkaus already in early 1998. The first joint project concerned developing technologies and games for real-time betting with an unlimited number of simultaneous players. Development challenges involved solving last second network congestions and networking security, thus ensuring fair gaming for all players. A revolutionary solution called Real-Time Betting (RTB) was invented and a complete prototype system built, including several mobile devices and a supporting infrastructure. Two key patents were obtained to protect the invention, which were later to be acquired for international coverage. RTB inventions were the first of their kind and unambiguously unrivalled in the lottery gaming industry.

After the development of RTB several new challenges emerged regarding the development of new lottery and gaming products. The solution to these challenges was an entirely new approach: A model based lottery game design methodology and toolset. The new invention was the starting point of the next project with TUT and Veikkaus which commenced in 2005. As a result, the DACI research group created a prototype toolset which adopted the new methodology for lottery game innovation. Our company's first product family, Advant Designer Suite, was released only few months after the project concluded, thanks to the high quality university prototypes. Currently, our products and services utilize these patented technologies and methods.

To date, Advant Games has grown to provide versatile services, systems and software products to the lottery and gaming industry. Our clientele includes all major gaming operators in Finland, (Veikkaus, RAY and Fintoto) and other suppliers. We are rapidly expanding into international markets and building forward-looking solutions for players of the future.
